Task Board Overview

Kanban Board Layout

Sniffer’s board is the central hub where all captured feedback and bugs are saved, organized, and tracked from report to resolution. The board uses a familiar Kanban-style layout that provides visual clarity and intuitive workflow management.

Column-Based Organization: The board displays tasks in vertical columns, with each column representing a stage in your workflow. Tasks move from left to right as they progress through stages, providing a clear visual representation of work status.

  • Default Columns: Sniffer’s board typically includes default columns such as:
  • Backlog: Newly reported issues awaiting triage
  • To Do: Triaged issues ready to be worked on
  • In Progress: Issues currently being addressed
  • Review: Issues awaiting verification or code review
  • Done: Resolved and verified issues

Task Cards: Each bug or feedback item appears as a card within its respective column. Cards display key information at a glance, including the title, priority indicator, assignee avatar, and any tags or labels applied.

Visual Indicators: Cards include visual cues to help you quickly assess their status. Color-coded priority badges, icons indicating attached screenshots or videos, and comment counts help you understand each task without opening it.

Drag and Drop: Move tasks between columns by clicking and dragging cards. This intuitive interaction makes it easy to update task status as work progresses.

Swimlanes: Some board configurations support horizontal swimlanes that group tasks by assignee, priority, or other criteria. Swimlanes add another dimension of organization to help teams manage complex projects.

Default Columns

Understanding the purpose of each default column helps your team use the board effectively.

  • Backlog: The Backlog column is the landing zone for all newly created bugs and feedback. When someone submits a report through the browser extension or client feedback feature, it appears here first. The Backlog represents issues that have been captured but not yet reviewed or prioritized.
  • To Do: After triage, issues move to the To Do column. These are tasks that have been reviewed, prioritized, and are ready for a team member to pick up. The To Do column represents the queue of work waiting to be started.
  • In Progress: When a developer or team member begins working on an issue, they move it to In Progress. This column shows what is actively being worked on right now. Limiting the number of tasks in this column helps prevent overload and maintains focus.
  • Review: Completed work often requires verification before being marked as done. The Review column holds tasks that are waiting for QA testing, code review, or stakeholder approval. This stage ensures that fixes actually resolve the reported issues.
  • Done: The Done column contains resolved issues. Moving a task to Done signals that the work is complete and verified. Done tasks remain visible for reference but can be archived to keep the board clean.
  • Customizing Columns: Sniffer allows you to customize columns to match your team’s workflow. Add new columns, rename existing ones, reorder them, or remove columns that do not fit your process. See Section 36 for details on Kanban board customization.

Viewing Task Details

Clicking on a task card opens the full task details, revealing all the information captured during the bug report.

  • Task Header: The top of the task details shows the title, status, priority, and assignee. Quick-action buttons allow you to change these properties without scrolling.
  • Visual Evidence: Screenshots and video recordings are prominently displayed. Click on images to view them full-size. Video recordings include playback controls, seekbar markers for errors, and timestamp-based comments.
  • Description: The full description of the issue appears below the visual evidence. This includes any text the reporter added, as well as AI-generated descriptions if applicable.
  • Reproduction Steps: Sniffer automatically captures user actions leading up to the bug report. These reproduction steps are displayed in a clear, step-by-step format, often with timestamps and associated screenshots.
  • Technical Context: A dedicated section displays all automatically captured technical data:
    • URL where the issue occurred
    • Browser name and version
    • Operating system
    • Window size and screen resolution
    • Timestamp of the report
    • Selector/element reference
    • Console logs
    • Network errors
    • Environment metadata
  • Comments and Activity: The comment thread shows all discussion about the task. Team members can add comments, ask questions, and provide updates. The activity log tracks all changes made to the task.
  • Attachments: Additional files attached to the task are listed and can be downloaded or viewed directly.
  • Related Tasks: If the task is linked to other issues or duplicates, those relationships are displayed for easy navigation.

Board vs. List View

Sniffer offers multiple ways to view your tasks, allowing you to choose the format that works best for your needs.

Board View: The default Kanban board view displays tasks as cards organized in columns. This view excels at showing workflow status and is ideal for visual thinkers who want to see the big picture of work in progress.

Board view benefits:

  • Visual representation of workflow stages
  • Easy drag-and-drop status updates
  • Quick identification of bottlenecks
  • Clear view of work distribution

List View: The list view displays tasks in a table format with sortable columns. Each row represents a task, and columns show properties like title, status, priority, assignee, and dates.

List view benefits:

  • Compact display of many tasks
  • Easy sorting by any column
  • Quick scanning of task properties
  • Efficient for bulk operations

Switching Views: Toggle between board and list views using the view selector, typically located in the toolbar above the task display. Your preference is remembered for future sessions.

Hybrid Approaches: Some teams use board view for active sprints and list view for backlog grooming or reporting. Choose the view that fits each specific activity.

Refreshing the Board

Keeping your board up to date ensures you always see the latest information.

  • Automatic Updates: Sniffer’s board updates in real-time as changes occur. When a team member submits a new bug, moves a task, or adds a comment, the board reflects these changes automatically without requiring a manual refresh.
  • Real-Time Collaboration: Multiple team members can work on the board simultaneously. You see others’ changes as they happen, enabling seamless collaboration without conflicts.
  • Manual Refresh: If you suspect the board is not showing the latest data, you can manually refresh by clicking the refresh button in the toolbar or using your browser’s refresh function.
  • Notification Indicators: When changes occur on tasks you are watching or assigned to, notification indicators alert you to new activity. Click these indicators to jump directly to the updated tasks.
  • Offline Handling: If you lose internet connectivity, Sniffer notifies you that real-time updates are paused. Once connectivity is restored, the board syncs automatically to show the current state.
  • Dashboard Highlights: Sniffer’s dashboards show what needs attention, highlighting new issues, approaching deadlines, and tasks waiting for your action. Use the dashboard as a starting point to focus on the most important items.

By mastering Sniffer’s board, you gain complete visibility into your team’s feedback and bug tracking workflow. The unified board ensures that nothing falls through the cracks and that every issue moves efficiently from capture to resolution.
